Postgraduate Essentials - Completion and Beyond
Postgraduate Essentials: Completion and Beyond is a resource-rich online course designed to help PhD candidates in the final stages their degree write, edit and submit a doctoral thesis, as well as plan and prepare for life after the thesis.
Companion to the award-winning Postgraduate Essentials: Strategies to a Successful Start to Your PhD, Completion and Beyond has six intensive modules:
- Writing to Finish
- The Editing Clinic
- Submission and Examination
- Maintaining Momentum
- The Changing Nature of Supervision
- Beyond the PhD
Candidates enrolled in Completion and Beyond work toward submission by completing a series of thesis-specific tasks. These are published in the dynamic Completion and Beyond Workspace. Designed to assist with candidature management, skill-development and the tracking of individually set learning outcomes, the Completion and Beyond Workspace helps candidates get the most out of their Melbourne PhD experience.
Completion and Beyond also encourages course participants to build a Research Profile for the promotion and showcasing of their research interests and academic achievements. The Research Profile promotes scholarly networking and enables candidates to reflect upon and develop their professional identity in preparation for the transition from graduate research into the workforce.
Postgraduate Essentials was developed by the Melbourne School of Graduate Research, Academic Skills Unit and Information Division at the University of Melbourne. The project received funding from the Courseware Design and Development Program (funded under the auspices of Information and Education Services, Educational Technology Services and Digital Media Services) as well as from the Teaching and Learning Performance Fund.
