To submit, please take the copies of your thesis/dissertation (creative works)/composition folio to MSGR main reception. Opening hours.

Further information regarding the submission can be found in the PhD Handbook or MPhil Handbook or Generic Masters Handbook.

Completion Seminar

All PhD and MPhil candidates are expected to take part in a Completion Seminar of their research findings at the University.  The Completion Seminar should present the objectives, methods, findings and significance of the candidate's thesis research and is held in the candidate's department prior to the submission of the thesis. Read Completion Seminar InDetail flyer .

80-word summary

Three months prior to the submission date of the thesis/dissertation(creative works)/composition folio, the candidate is required to submit an 80-word summary of the research argument to the Melbourne School of Graduate Research. The summary activates the process of nominating potential examiners.

Note: If more than 3 months lapses between submission of the 80-word summary and the thesis/dissertation (creative works)/composition folio for examination, it is recommended that the candidate notify the MSGR two weeks before they plan to submit to avoid delays with the examination. The MSGR Examinations Office can be notified by e-mail at: msgr-exams@unimelb.edu.au.

Further information regarding submission and the formatting can be found in the PhD Handbook, MPhil Handbook or Generic Masters Handbook.

The Examination

The examination process, from submission of the thesis/dissertation (creative works)/composition folio until candidates are contacted by the Melbourne School of Graduate Research with a result or notification of a delay, will usually take a minimum of 4 months. While the thesis/dissertation (creative works)/composition folio is under examination specific information pertaining to the examination cannot be disclosed. A result will be sent to the candidate once all reports have been received and considered by the Chairperson of Examiners.

MSGR has adopted a common grading system for all Masters by Research thesis examinations which has been approved by Academic Board (where the research component accounts for two-thirds of the course requirements).

Further information regarding examination can be found in the PhD Handbook or MPhil Handbook or Generic Masters Handbook.
